LAST year the Bury Times very kindly publicised our fund-raising efforts for much-needed repairs to our church and parish hall at St Joseph's RC Church in Ramsbottom. Repairs and decorations to the Lodge Street hall have now been completed and it is in tip-top condition.

The parish hall is currently being used for all church services as the main church is closed while the necessary work is being undertaken. It is hoped to re-open for normal services by Easter.

Meanwhile our fund-raising activities continue as the total cost of renovations is astronomical. Before we have an official opening ceremony for the Lodge Street hall we are holding a race meeting at Walshaw Sports Club in Tottington on Friday, April 20. More details can be obtained from Mr Martin Hankinson (01706 824098). Thanks are due to Martin for his efforts to get the fund-raising going, and to Kath Reeves who organised the race meeting. Last year this was a great success, raising around £1,000 and it is hoped to exceed that amount this year.

When renovations are completed we all look forward to holding many social functions in the parish hall.
