I READ with great interest your article 'youth shelter to go on the move' (LET, March 1), for as a mother of two boys, aged 11 and 14, I can relate to this very well.

Both boys have been to youth clubs before, where I also helped out.

All these youngsters want to do is 'hang out' with their friends, be themselves, not to worry that they are watched all the time.

Of course, they need a base, which also acts as a safe place for them.

We adults have the right, which we use to the full, to 'hang out' with our mates in pubs, clubs and so on. So why can't our youth do the same?

I'm sure if there were more places such as youth clubs, etc, juvenile crime would go down.

County Councillor Dorothy Westell is right -- we do lag behind. Why was all that lottery money wasted on the Dome?

We could have made a lot of difference to our youth all over England with some of it.
