COUNCILLOR Paul Browne says that the idea of pay and display car parks in Darwen is insane (LET, March 2). I think it would be insane not to go ahead.

As a regular shopper in Darwen who finds it very difficult to find a parking space near to the markets, due to people parking all day, I think a regular flow of vehicles would only enhance trade in our town.

Parking charges in other towns do not deter shoppers and the proposed 20p charge is a nominal one.

Coun Browne's statement that it would drive custom away is hot air as I and many other shoppers feel the opposite would be true.
