JON Newby has revealed that he would like to stay at Bury permanently.

Whether that is financially viable is another question but it shows how much the Liverpool loan striker has fallen in love with the club and the fans.

Newby, who struck a last minute winner to defeat league leaders Millwall on Tuesday, exclusively told the BEN that no one at Liverpool had contacted him since he arrived at Gigg Lane. "Read into that what you will," said the 23-year-old who is clearly unhappy at the way he has been treated.

Newby talked openly about wanting to remain at Bury and acknowledged that he may have to move from the Premiership side in order to further his career.

Brilliant

"It's gone brilliant here at Bury and we are looking at another month and then hopefully till the end of the season," said the striker who has yet to finish on a losing Bury side in seven matches.

"Liverpool haven't been in contact and as far as I'm concerned I'm a Bury player and enjoying every minute.

"There are so many quality strikers at Liverpool and it does make it harder for young players to break through. There gets to a stage in the reserves when you can't go any further. At the end of the day nothing beats first team football. We'll have to see where we are at the end of the season and who knows what will happen after that."

Newby revealed he is enoying his football so much because he is playing in his natural position.

Previous loan spells at clubs like Sheffield United have faltered because he hasn't been picked at centre forward.

"When I've been to other clubs they have tended to play me as a winger but that isn't my position," explained Newby, who has formed a devastating partnership with fellow loan man Colin Cramb.

"Here the manager told me I'd be playing through the middle and I have been. It's going well at the moment but I'm still working on my fitness and strength. It's good because I'm used to playing with Colin from our days at Crewe."

The Liverpool striker also had a word for the Gigg Lane crowd who chant his name in every match.

And after his Tuesday's last gasp winner he was cheered for a good five minutes after the match had ended.

"The crowd were brilliant for that match but to be fair they have been great ever since I came here," he said.

"Not once have I heard them getting on the backs of any players which is great." JON Newby has revealed that he would like to stay at Bury permanently.
