CHEMICAL giant ICI closed down a new Darwen plant following a chemical leak which led to a sixth-month-old baby being taken to hospital for a check-up. Residents near the site complained of an obnoxious smell from the river, and company bosses said it was a mystery how the non-toxic chemical got there.
