BOLTON 3

GILLINGHAM 3 BOLTON'S season was summed up in one game at the Reebok when they let at 3-1 lead slip and saw their promotion hopes take another big hit.

Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce blasted his side's "childish" defending that allowed Gillingham to get a share the spoils.

"When we got 3-1 up we decided defending wasn't the order of the day. We defended poorly and that includes the midfield three. We are making life difficult for ourselves by not winning our home games and that puts extra pressure on us away from home," he said.

Bolton's woe was compounded by a booking for leading scorer Michael Ricketts -- his 10th of the season -- which will bring him a two match ban.

He was an anonymous figure against Gillingham and Allardyce will be hoping the break will do him good. And there was an encouraging performance from substitute Andy Campbell on loan from Middlesborough.

Three times late on his pace helped him get in dangerous positions, all that was lacking was a decent finish.

Bolton, without a win in six games, looked a side short of confidence and it was against the run of play when Per Frandsen scored in the 30th minute.

Marlon King levelled six minutes later but Bolton had a half time lead thanks to an own goal from defender Mark Patterson. Dean Holdsworth appeared to have made the game safe with a tap-in six minutes after the restart only for Gillingham to hit back with goals from Nicky Southall and King again.
