KIND-HEARTED children at a Radcliffe nursery are looking for Trouble.

But it has nothing whatsoever to do with the behaviour of the 30 toddlers at the Radcliffe Hall Kindergarten and Day Nursery.

Instead, Trouble is the name of a ten-year-old cross labrador dog which the children have adopted through the National Canine Defence League (NCDL).

And a representative from the charity visited the Sandford Street-based nursery to give the youngsters and staff an update on the progress of their adopted pet.

Nursery manager Mrs Alison Dolan said: "The NCDL is based in Leeds and we adopted Trouble more than a year ago.

"We pay £13 each quarter which goes towards the upkeep and welfare of the dog and the children bring in 10p a month which goes towards looking after Trouble."

The nursery is sent regular newsletters and information from the NCDL about its adopted pet.

"We haven't actually seen Trouble. It's rather an old dog and is apparently quite shy."

However, photographs of the pet, together with all the literature from the NCDL, is displayed on a special board inside the nursery for the children to view.

They welcomed David Wright from the Merseyside branch of the NCDL who gave information about the work of the charity and its adoption scheme.

And although Trouble was not with him, Mr Wright brought along a toy dog for the youngsters to pat.
