MR Reg Shortle gave an informative talk on Dr Barnado Homes at a meeting of the Atherton Probus Club.
He told how Barnado was born in Dublin in 1845, and after missionary work in China, returned to London and qualified as a doctor of Medicine. But due to his involvement in the needs of poor children he never found time to carry out the practice.
