WEB surfers are prefering to pay their bills at the click of a mouse rather than stand in a queue. Wigan's Internet bill payment facility, introduced at the end of January, is proving hugely popular, with 133 citizens paying more than £22,000 for council tax, rents or other accounts. The service involves a simple quoting of a credit or debit card number and payments can be made, with a receipt issued, within a minute.
