And players Russell Payne, Steve Carragher and assistant manager Jimmy Bell have signed for the Merseyside club too.

But Stanley fans need not worry, the four have only signed up to provide cover for manager Tommy Lawson's side, who are hoping for promotion this season.

Lawson is a close friend of Coleman and Bell and a former manager of Payne and Carragher.

When asked about the new additions to his squad, Lawson said: "There is nothing sinister in it at all! They are previous players and good friends of mine and we have got a fixture pile up at the moment, playing three games a week.

"We were short of a striker when we played Great Harwood a few weeks ago and John said he would help us out. They might not be starting games but they are there for cover if they don't have a game. Accrington might finish the season before us and then they will be available for us."

Prescot Cables are in battle with East Lancs clubs Clitheroe, Rossendale and Ramsbottom for promotion to the Unibond First Division. Stanley play at managerless Altrincham in the Unibond Premier on Sunday.
