ATHERTON Colls officials were left in dismay this week by the attitude of tomorrow's opponents Mossley.

Repeated requests by the Alder House outfit to have the kick off time brought forward to 1pm in order to be finished in time for players and supporters alike to watch the England World Cup qualifier fell on deaf ears.

"I just can't understand it," exclaimed club chairman Steve Payne. "What is wrong with these people? It could have been a really great day having our game and then sitting down to cheer England on but they wouldn't entertain the idea. We just can't understand it."

Otherwise the club goes into the game on a high. After five months without a win, Colls made it three victories on the bounce for new management team Tom Foster and Dennis Haslam with a 1-0 celebration at Leek CSOB. The vital only goal of the game came in the last minute from Paul Vandenberg with Brett Goulding voted man of the match.

Daisy Hill went down to a 3-1 Division Two defeat on Tuesday at Blackpool Mechanics after going in front on only 11 minutes through Neil Melling.

That lead lasted just 60 seconds with the turning point of the game coming midway through the second half when defender Lee Molyneux picked up an injury and impressive midfielder Gary Crompton had to move into the back four as cover. As Daisy were still rallying from this blow Mechanics scored two goals in quick succession. Tomorrow they entertain Alsager.

Also in midweek Atherton LR ran out of time in a valiant attempt to recover from a three goal deficit at home to Formby and finished 3-2 losers.

Two goals in the first half and one just after had the visitors to Crilly Park in the driving seat but Rovers rallied with goals from Gavin Salmon and Barry Massey. Mark Parry was voted man of the match.

Manager Alan Lord will get a good pointer tomorrow as to how far away his side is from a serious challenge for honours with an away fixture at top of the table Nelson.
