POLICE are appealing for information on two road accidents which left both victims seriously injured.

A pedestrian was involved in a serious collision on the A59 Whalley/Clitheroe by-pass at Worston Road at around 1.30am today.

Police said a driver was travelling towards Whalley when the pedestrian appeared in the road.

The driver tried to take evasive action but collided with the man.

The driver contacted police on his mobile phone then stayed with the injured man until emergency services arrived.

The man was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with multiple head and body injuries then transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital.

John Barnes, 67, of Hollins Lane, Accrington, was on his Peugeot scooter when he was in collision with a Volvo 340 driven by 35-year-old Anthony Bradshaw, of Manchester Road, Baxenden yesterday shortly before 4pm at Broadfield Road, Oswaldtwistle.

Mr Barnes was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital suffering from multiple leg, internal and head injuries. He was described as critical. Police said his wife and son were keeping a bedside vigil.
