AUCTION marts and abattoirs across East Lancashire were grinding to a halt as the Mad Cow Disease crises deepened.
More than 40 staff at Rose County Foods' abattoirs in Gisburn Road, Sawley, lost their jobs and auction marts in Haslingden and Clitheroe, as well as Portfield Abattoir, in Whalley, were virtually deserted.
