A SHOPLIFTER is in custody after she broke a court's ban from entering self-service stores and stole meat worth £29 from Morrisons, Blackburn.

Wendy Parsons, 33, of Woodvale, Darwen, was remanded in custody until April 6 by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to shoplifting at Morrisons.

The court heard that Parsons had appeared in court on Monday and pleaded guilty to stealing chicken fillets from Aldi. She was remanded then on bail for reports with a condition that she must not enter any self-service stores.

David Macro, prosecuting, said that just two days later Parsons was arrested in Morrisons.

Julian Peers, defending, said Parsons had had a problem with heroin for a number of years and the thefts were to fund her addiction.

She had moved to Darwen from Burnley in December and as a result there had been a breakdown in her prescribed methadone.

"She has an appointment to see the community drugs team and by next week she would have been back on the methadone," said Mr Peers. "She simply could not wait." Shoplift
