RISING star Marc Richards could have capped a superb performance with a goal to match against Everton reserves.

The 19-year-old, who is just finding his feet in the Rovers reserve side this season, rose to strike an overhead kick but saw his super strike saved by the Toffees' keeper.

Reserve team boss Terry Darracott said the teenager's performance deserved a goal against the Reserve League leaders.

"He was a constant threat and I thought he was unlucky not to score," said Darracott. "But it was a very good performance from him.

"It is often an anti-climax when there are no goals but you can't always score and the important thing is that we kept a clean sheet too."

Jason McAteer, who has been left out of the first team squad in recent games, played an hour at Widnes RL's ground.

"Jason got what he wanted out of the game," said Darracott."He wants to keep his match fitness up."

McAteer linked up well with Jamie Hamilton to provide the only other good chance for Rovers and Alan Miller in the visiting goal was a match for Everton's forward line.

Rovers stay third in the FA Premier Reserve League North.
