A MIDDLE-AGED man allegedly performed sex acts on a young girl and told her not to tell her parents, a jury was told.

Burnley Crown Court heard how the child would sometimes cry as John Michael Hyslop, 58, got her to do "horrible " things.

She said she had not told Hyslop to stop because she had been told by her mum and dad not to give cheek to her elders.

The schoolgirl, who had broken down sobbing for her mother as she was interviewed on video by a specially trained policewoman, claimed the defendant would strike while his wife was at work.

She had earlier told her mother what had allegedly been going on, but had thought her dad would not believe her.

Hyslop, of Ridgeway, Barrowford, denies six counts of indecent assault and six of indecency with a child, said to have been committed between last January and June.

Giving evidence on video link, the little girl told the jury Hyslop would make her touch his private parts and do "horrible" things.

Asked by Mark Lamberty, prosecuting, why the girl did not tell him to stop, she replied she had been told by her parents not to be cheeky to her elders. (Proceeding)
