PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice was today backing a call for young people to boycott Coca Cola until US President George Bush changes his mind over global warming.
The soft drinks giant was a major donor to the Republican's successful campaign for the White House.
Now Mr Bush is refusing to endorse the Kyoto Protocols signed by his father when he was president to cut greenhouse gases to reduce global warming.
More than 50 MPs today backed a campaign to urge Coca Cola to persuade Mr Bush to change his mind before a crucial international summit in Germany in July.
And the MPs want Coke customers in Britain and the rest of the world to refuse to buy the drink until there is a change of heart.
Pendle MP Mr Prentice is one of the MPs from all parties who signed a Commons Motion.
He said: "I won't be drinking any Coke today. It's important that something is done. The US has four per cent of the world's population but produces 25 per cent of global pollution.
"The country is responsible for a quarter of greenhouse gases. Global warming is a vital issue. Ask people living in low-lying islands in the Pacific Ocean that are in danger of being flooded over.
"This is an example where consumer power could lead to a major change of mind by the US President."
