PLAYER-of-the-year prospect Paul Weller is aiming to burst Wimbledon's bubble at Selhurst Park tonight and make Burnley the surprise play-off package.

Wimbledon have put together a 15-match unbeaten run to emerge as strong candidates for a late surge into the top six.

But the in-form Weller is keen to stop the Dons in their tracks and take Burnley three points clear of Terry Burton's men in the table.

He said: "They are a good team. They've had a great run but it's time they lost a game and why not?

"We are a team that can beat anyone on our day so we will give it a good go."

Wimbledon have won four in a row at home to keep alive their hopes of an instant Premiership return while the Clarets have blown hot and cold on their travels. But Weller insisted: "Lately we have done all right away from home.

"Apart from Blackburn we did all right at Watford and it's time we did set that record straight."

If Burnley win tonight sixth-placed Preston would still be six points clear in the last play-off spot if they beat Huddersfield at the same time.

But despite the long-odds the Clarets won't throw in the towel as they prepare for the first of five more games against promotion hopefuls.

"We are going to have a big say in things between now and the end of the season and we know that if we do perform tonight and again on Saturday (against West Brom) then we are up there. We have got a chance," Weller added.

"We don't want it to be a boring end of season and just having that hope that we can do something just gives us something to play for."

Weller is set to continue in a central midfield role where he excelled in the win over Preston on Friday night.

The 26-year-old has played largely on the right flank this term but started out in his career as a more central figure and admits that it's a position he likes to fill.

He said: "You are more involved and I like being involved. Everyone says being in their half of the pitch is more me, which is more enjoyable for me, and hopefully we can do that again at Wimbledon, try and attack more than defend."

Weller looks set to complete his most productive ever season in terms of appearances and is a decent bet to be among the end-of-season player-of-the-year awards.

"Playing in a higher division has brought the best out of me at the moment," he admitted.

"And when the gaffer keeps picking you it shows that he has got confidence in you which brings out the confidence in yourself."

"I had my chance at the beginning of the season. The gaffer said if you perform you keep your shirt and luckily I have been able to do that."

The Clarets may be unchanged tonight with Mitchell Thomas and Lee Briscoe still struggling to shake off back problems, although Briscoe is back in training and closing in on a return.

Wimbledon could recall leading scorer Jason Euell and Gareth Ainsworth may be on the bench.
