NELSON are keen to avoid a potential banana skin tonight when the NWCL Division Two leaders visit bottom-of-table Oldham Town.

Last season the Blues dropped points against the lower sides which ultimately cost them promotion and full-back Dave Leigh, who has spent six seasons at Victory Park, knows his side musn't slip up this time.

"We have gone off the boil again in recent weeks since winning around 11 on the trot but we are still in a good position.

"Last season we were left counting the cost of points dropped against the lower sides, we seemed to draw a lot towards the end, and that was frustrating.

"We have been on the top of the league along time now and it would be a boost for the area if we got promoted."

Dave, who had trials at Preston North End and has also played for Colne Dynamoes, Rossendale United and Bacup, is currently battling for his spot in the Blues starting line-up.

A twisted knee and mid season break has meant he has slipped down the pecking order.

"We have a strong squad here and I would like to get back in for the run-in. Hopefully we can keep going as the First Division is a good league and promotion would be great."

Elswhere, tenth place Chorley will make the trip to Kendal looking to finish as high up the UniBond First Division table as possible.

And in the NWCL Division One, table topping Rossendale welcome Abbey Hey to Dark Lane while Ramsbottom will aim to boost their own promotion push with a home game against Maine Road.

A pitch inspection was due to take place at the Riverside this afternoon. Ring 01204 852742 for details.

In Division Two, there's a local derby at West View as Bacup welcome Padiham while Darwen are at home to Chadderton tonight.
