A THIEF dogged by heroin for the last seven years may be given a drug treatment and testing order.
Burnley magistrates heard how Stephen James Haley, 35, was no longer reliant on the drug and the bench said they had been impressed by the way he had tried to tackle his problem. They added they always tried to encourage those who had made that sort of effort.
Haley, of Wiseman Street, Burnley, admitted breach of probation and theft of vitamins to the tune of £60 from Superdrug and was bailed until May 8 for assessment, on condition he co-operates with the probation service.
Richard Taylor, defending, said Haley had had a heroin problem for the last seven years and had decided to do something about it.
Haley, who suffered from depression and had been on incapacity benefit for a considerable time, had now been off drugs for two months. He had stayed out of trouble for six months.
