DEFEATED Wimbledon boss Terry Burton admitted his side now has no margin for error if they are to reach the First Division play-offs.

His message came after their 15 match unbeaten run was ended by the Clarets last night.

The Dons are now three points behind Burnley and seven adrift of the top six after they lost 2-0 to goals from Gareth Taylor and Ian Moore.

"Mathematically it's not impossible but there's not a lot of time for errors. All we can do is look to build another unbeaten run," said Burton, who admitted it had been a difficult night for his side which had won their previous four home matches.

"I suppose when you are going to lose after a 14 or 15 match unbeaten run you tend to lose that kind of game," he added.

"We didn't play too badly in the first half and the goals they scored at the start and the end of the half were a shade against the run of play.

"But all credit to Burnley. They came here and did a great job on a difficult pitch.

"They played the conditions very well. They defended with depth and tenacity, although in saying that we had four or five chances in the first half and on another day they go in. It was a bad day at the office.

"David Nielsen hit the bar and Kevin Cooper had a couple of half-chances. Neil Ardley had a great chance but then in the second half they had the two-goal lead and didn't need to do any more. On the day we weren't clever enough to break them down."

Five of the Dons' last seven games are at home but Burton believes the state of the heavily used Selhurst Park pitch doesn't help their cause.

"It's a nightmare at times for the players but they played the conditions better than we did," he said.

"We've had some tough games and everybody expects you to beat Burnley but football is like that and has a habit of kicking you in the teeth."
