POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was taken to hospital with stab wounds.

The incident happened in Bank Street, Darwen, between 2pm and 3pm on Monday after an argument between two gangs of men.

Police said the dispute arose between two Asian men in a white BMW and two white men in a blue transit van, which is believed to have had the words "H Roofing" written on the side.

The driver of the BMW was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with stab wounds to his chest but was released the same day.

Detective Sergeant Neil Hunter from Darwen CID said a house-to-house inquiries in the area was still ongoing and there was a possibility there could have been a third man in the blue transit van.

He said: "We have had some success with these enquiries but someone else may have seen something. We need to know how this incident came about.

"There appears to have been some sort of altercation between these males which has resulted in one being taken to hospital with puncture wounds to his chest."

If anyone has any information they should contact Darwen CID on 01254 353842.
