A PRESTON mum is calling on parents to stop pampering their babies and get them into 'real' nappies.

Mum-of-two Hilary Gregson, 34, from Fulwood, Preston, is aiming to encourage parents to dump disposables in favour of traditional wash-as-you-go nappies.

Hilary's plea comes ahead of Real Nappy Week during April 23 to 29 and she is hoping people will contact her for tips and advice on 'real' nappies -- the sort you pop in the washer and use again.

The busy mum (pictured) combines bringing up her two daughters Sarah, three, and Becky, 22 months, with being a local agent for Lollipop, a company which promotes and raises the profile of real nappies.

She got involved with the 'real' nappy campaign after discovering millions of disposable nappies were filling up landfill sites across the country. According to Hilary some of the components of the 8million disposables dumped in the UK every year may not biodegrade for 500 years! Hilary said: "A 'real' nappy is one you wash rather than dispose of. They are compact, fashionable, easy to wash and can save money. The aim of Real Nappy Week is to encourage people to think about disposable nappies and the harm they do to the environment.

"The problem is getting people to make the change. We hope that by raising their awareness of the harm being done not only to the environment now, but to the one their grandchildren will live in, they will want to turn to real nappies."

Hilary has a selection of 'real' nappies available to buy and can help parents decide which is the best type to use. Contact her on 01772 712768.
