FUN with friends turned sour for nine-year-old Shauna Warren when she became trapped at the top of a slide for up to half an hour.

The youngster, who lives in St John's Place, Nelson, had been playing on the children's area in Marsden Park at around 7pm yesterday when she got her knees stuck in the railings at the top of the ladder.

Police and ambulance spent around 20 minutes trying to free her but had to call the fire service who cut her loose.

Leading fire fighter Roy Waddington said: "She had some how managed to get her knees through adjacent railings and they had swollen up so we had to cut the middle railing out. Usually we try to calm them down and just straighten their legs up and they just come out.

"It only took us about five minutes to cut her out but they had been trying to get her out for about 20 minutes before that. She was a bit frightened but she was okay. She was with some friends and her mum came up after a while."
