PRESTON College has pledged its support to grass roots football by launching a new five-a-side indoor league.
The league aims to support Preston council's sports development unit and the Sport England scheme -- Active Sports Girls Soccer.
John Gibson, Preston College's sports centre manager, said: "The focus of the five-a-side league is on beginners and enjoyment in a competitive environment.
"The tournament is for girls who have not played in a competitive league or event before."
Novotel of Preston -- who has already sponsored Preston College's sports centre's 'Fitness Suite Challenge' -- are lending their support to the event.
Ian Tuggey, Novotel's general manager, added: "Novotel looks to support new and innovative local sporting projects that give youngsters the opportunity to do something they would not otherwise be able to do.
"As sponsors of a local boy's football team, it is great to give the girls a chance to show that they can do just as well."
Teams may consist of schools, girl guides or fitness centres.
Matches will be played on Wednesday evenings for nine-11-year-olds (7-8pm) and 11-13-year-olds (8-9pm).
Lancashire FA has appointed referees which are available for matches.
For more information about the league and how to register, call the Sports Centre reception on 01772 225420.
