A TUTOR from Preston College has put pen to paper and written a beauty book with a cultural flair.

School of Hairdressing and Beauty section leader Muriel Burnham-Airey, from Garstang, Preston, is over-the-moon after releasing her Indian Head Massage book which was co-written by colleague Adele O'Keefe.

It took Muriel and Adele two years to complete and covers the technique, background physiology and anatomy, insurance, health and safety, case studies and business tips.

The massage takes 20 to 25 minutes to complete and has its origins in Hinduism and is a popular form of relaxation in the Indian culture.

Hard-working Muriel trained in Indian Head Massage four years ago. Now she teaches a 10-week course in the subject at the St Vincent's Road college.

She said: "Adele had comes from a beauty therapy background into holistic therapy and I had come from a hairdressing background and diversified into many various forms of massage.

"We make a good team."

Indian Head Massage -- a practical guide is published by Thomson Learning and costs £15.99 from Waterstones, in Fishergate, Preston.
