OLDHAM ATHLETIC RESERVES 0, BURNLEY RESERVES 3

THE Clarets youngsters recorded a superb win over Oldham at Mossley last night to move third in the Avon Insurance Premier League.

Even striker Anthony Shandran was rested to keep him back for possible first-team duty over the Easter weekend which meant just four professionals plus trialist Mark Rasmussen lined up alongside the club's scholars.

The Clarets took a while to find their feet on a heavy pitch but Andrew Waine got them moving forward after 20 minutes with a chip that went just over the bar.

And five minutes later Burnley went in front when Andrew Leeson worked his way into the box and beat Latics keeper David Miskelly from a tight angle.

Rasmussen then made his mark with a fine goal to put the visitors 2-0 up at the break as he held off a defender and spotting Miskelly off his line lifted home a delicate lob.

The Clarets were given a scare 11 minutes into the second half when Danny Walsh shot just wide but they made sure of the points when John Williamson scored an excellent solo effort 18 minutes from time.

The big striker beat two men on the edge of the box before drilling home a left foot shot and Burnley almost added a fourth late on when Michael Devenney, back from a foot injury, had a goalbound shot hacked away and Alex Kevan skimmed a post.

Burnley: Salisbury, Leeson, Pilkington, Scott, Davies, Boardman, Waine, Kevan, Williamson, Devenney, Rasmussen (Barratt 70).
