ROSSENDALE's Footpath Officer John Dwyer has given the OK for a guided walk to go ahead on Easter Sunday.

Bacup Natural History Society member John Taylor, who is leading the walk as part of the Bacup Easter Weekend Festival, agreed the urban trail route with John Dwyer. The five-mile guided heritage ramble replaces the countryside walk originally planned between Bacup and Stacksteads.

The new route sticks as closely as possible to the original trail and starts at 1.30pm from Bacup Market Place on Sunday.

The 7-mile ramble from Bacup to Deerplay has been switched to a mill trail because the foot and mouth crisis has closed all the footpaths, but the start time remains 10am from Bacup Market Place.

The short one-and-a-half mile heritage trail walk on Saturday afternoon is unaffected.
