RE your front page article about the Illuminations (Citizen, March 29), I am sick and tired of people discussing them and saying they are "old hat".

There is one way to get round this problem and that is to charge £1 per car and £5 per coach. This would easily help towards the cost of upgrading the Lights.

Why put the onus on the ratepayers of Blackpool, the Fylde and businesses in the area? Put the payment boxes at various points along the way and a card to be put in the front of the car or coach to say they have paid. I am sure people will be glad to pay and some of the Lights could be changed each year.

And another thing -- what do the pensioners get out of this? Nothing. We only get half-price bus charges while in other places they get free bus passes. In a seaside place this seems unbelievable with so much money coming into the town.
