THE father of tiny Dillon and Chantelle Harrison has been sent in custody for trial at Preston Crown court on charges of wounding the five week old twins.

Paul Harrison, 22, of Francis Street, Blackburn, faced further charges of wounding Chantelle with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and neglect when he made a second appearance before Blackburn magistrates. The children's mother, Joanne Watkins, 23, of the same address, faces charges of neglect and was sent on bail for trial at the Crown Court.

The court heard that Dillon had suffered brain injuries which resulted in him spending two days on a life support machine at Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury. X-rays of Chantelle have been studied by a consultant radiologist and, as well as the original broken arm, two broken ribs and a possible skull fracture had been discovered.

Chantelle is still being treated at Queens Park Hospital.
