IT is not only the shopkeepers who are being driven out of Blackburn with high rents but also the market stallholders.
Another factor affecting trade is the lack of free and easily accessible car parking spaces.
This problem has been building up for many years and the council has turned a blind eye to it. Council employees take up many of the spaces on the multi-storey car park.
Another should be built within 100 yards of the shopping centre with easy access and exits, for shoppers.
Not many people are prepared to pay a couple of pounds to park their car in order to buy vegetables, fish or a mop and bucket. They will go instead to the large supermarkets with free car parking.
