SPORTY youngsters are needed to form the first disabled team to represent Bury in the Greater Manchester Youth Games.

Teams are being entered in athletics, football, swimming and boccia (an Italian form of bowls) when the games come to the city later this year.

Organisers are looking for competitors to take part, but also for individuals willing to offer them their time and support.

Yvonne Hall, Bury's disability sports co-ordinator, said that this is the first time Bury has been able to properly organise teams of disabled girls and boys to go to the games.

"The event is a wonderful occasion and we are sure that all our competitors will never forget their involvement," she said.

"This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to be part of a major regional event which is not just about competing but also meeting and mixing with fellow competitors drawn from across Greater Manchester."

Yvonne added: "Over the coming weeks we will be putting together our final teams. We are also looking to bring on board everyone from parents to teachers, volunteers, coaches and team managers.

"This will be a team effort and we are sure that Bury will make a real impact."

Individuals who can support disabled competitors should phone Yvonne on 253 6388.
