TWO drivers were dragged from their vehicles by masked thugs in separate car-jackings in Prestwich.

And in one of the incidents, a man was hit with a spanner.

Now, detectives are continuing their inquiries into both crimes which happened on Thursday.

The first car-jacking happened at 11.50am at the Hilton Park service station in Bury New Road.

A driver was sitting in his parked Vauxhall Vectra when two men, wearing balaclavas, suddenly dragged him from the vehicle. He was hit with a spanner but was not injured. Police say he was badly shaken.

The thugs jumped into the Vectra and sped off. Police say the car contained a computer and keyboard.

In the second incident, which happened at 2.30pm at the Jewish Cemetery in Butterstile Lane, Prestwich, two masked men drove up in a stolen Vauxhall Astra.

They confronted the driver of an Alfa Romeo and pulled him from his car before stealing it. The Astra, which had been stolen from the Pendlebury area of Manchester on Wednesday, was left behind at the scene.

Police say the Alfa Romeo was later spotted in Pendleton, Manchester, heading towards Liverpool.

Inquiries into both incidents are continuing. Anyone with information should ring Bury operational police unit on 856 8157.
