TYLDESLEY Police Station will close on Tuesday for substantial alterations.
A complete refurbishment starts next week at the Shuttle Street building which also serves as the area's Tactical Aid Unit headquarters.
Leigh Police sub-division Chief Inspector Ken Dickson explained: "Major works are expected to take 20 weeks to complete and area staff who normally work at Tyldesley will be deployed from Bag Lane station at Atherton.
"When the job is completed and Tyldesley reopens, the public will enjoy much improved enquiry counter facilities."
Atherton police station is open Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm, but closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
