A TEAM of firefighters searched a smoke-filled pub on Wednesday night fearing teenagers were trapped inside. A passing policeman raised the alarm when he noticed flames coming from The Fleece in Westleigh Lane, Leigh. He entered the boarded-up pub, which since it closed has been used as a drug den and hideout for local youths, then alerted the fire service. A Leigh fire station spokesman said: "We made a thorough search of the premises in case someone was still inside. It appears there had been a break-in and a fire had started at the bottom of a stairway. The floor had been burnt through and a door and frame were on fire, the place was filled with smoke.
"From what we found inside it seems the building is being frequented by drug users."
