NEIL Turley is rapidly closing in on one of rugby league's all-time world records.

The 21-year-old Leigh full-back, who has burst onto the scene in such dramatic fashion with the Centurions this season, is only four tries short of beating Paul Charlton's landmark figure of 33 tries - the highest total ever scored by a Number One.

When Turley touched down in the second half at Hunslet last Sunday it was his 30th of the campaign; 29 in the NFP and one in the Challenge Cup. The Hilton Park star has touched down at least once in his last four games and has failed to score in only three games in which he has played this season.

International full-back Charlton was with Salford when he set the world record back in 1972-73 season. The current Barrow coach scored 31 tries for his club, one for Great Britain and one for Cumbria in that year.

But it took him 51 games to do it. Turley's 30th arrived in just his 17th match!
