A GARDEN aimed at promoting peace and harmony in Brierfield has finally been unveiled after two years of planning.

The garden, which was built in front of the Brierfield Youth Centre, Colne Road, is the work of a group of Asian boys from the centre who gathered ideas by visiting gardens in London.

They were led in their work by the Youth and Community Service in partnership with Groundwork East Lancashire and Mid Pennine Arts.

The Brierfield Peace Garden has been funded by Pendle Partnership's European Regional Development Fund, The Prince's Trust, Awards for All, Lancashire County Council, The Co-op, Community Action Network and the Landfill Tax.

Naheed Ashraf, Groundwork's locality planning officer, said: "The garden was developed in response to social tensions in Brierfield and emphasises the importance of peace, harmony and a united community."
