RADIO station bosses are pledging more big names as Blackburn gears up for its biggest-ever pop concert.

As reported in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph earlier this week, Ewood Park is set to host a massive fund-raising concert organised by Preston-based Rock FM to raise money for the charity Help A Local Child.

Already confirmed for the Feel The Noise 2001 gig, pencilled in for Saturday, June 2. are chart-topping acts S Club 7 and boy band 5ive.

Appearances also confirmed from Dane Bowers, Architects, Maria Robia (singer with Fragma), Artful Dodger, Lisa Roxanne and Dimestars.

DJ Brian Moore, who fronts the radio station's breakfast show, said: "This is a very special event for us and, although we have some big names lined up already, there are more to come.

"We are talking to people all the time and hope to have some more big names confirmed over the coming weeks."

It is the first time Ewood Park has hosted a concert.

A spokesman for Polydor, S Club 7's record label, said: "The whole group is looking forward to doing this one.

"It is for a great charity and should be a great day."

Ticket prices start from £10.00.

One of Rock FM's last big concerts was in 1996 when it took over Avenham Park in Preston for the Party in the Park. If that event is anything to go by, it will be worth making a note of the lesser-known acts performing.

For a week after the Preston gig in 1996, a certain girl group shot to number one and have gone on to have a string of hit singles, albums, a movie and solo successes as well.

Yes, Lancashire discovered the Spice Girls.
