AN 82 year-old woman was in a stable condition in hospital today after a fire at her home left her with carbon monoxide poisoning.
Sarah King was rescued by two 21-year-old men from her home in Anchor Avenue, Darwen, on Tuesday afternoon.
The duo from Darwen -- David Dillon and Adrian Dutton -- were hailed heroes by fire crews and Mrs King's family for their actions.
A pan left on the hob had started a fire in the kitchen, and the smoke then knocked Mrs King unconscious.
She was taken to Blackburn Infirmary, but later transferred to the Bupa Murrayfield Hospital, Wirral, because of its decompression unit to treat carbon monoxide poisoning.
She is now in intensive care at Halton General Hospital, Runcorn, where her condition is described as stable.
Fire Officers said her kitchen had suffered 75 per cent damage, and that there was extensive damaged to the rest of the ground floor.
