RAMSBOTTOM UNITED 0 - KIDSGROVE ATHLETIC 3
RAMSBOTTOM'S bid for the NWCL Division One title faltered against fellow high flyers Kidsgrove.
The Rams needed to win their final five games -- starting last night -- to have the number one spot in their own hands. Now they will have to hope the other teams around them slip up.
Kidsgrove took the lead on 23 minute when a defensive error allowed Steve Tobin to run clear and fire past Keith Neild.
Ramsbottom struggled as Kidsgrove pressed for a second goal and Kidsgrove looked by much the better side as they outplayed the Rams in all areas of the park.
Ramsbottom's problems increased at the start of the second half when central defender Thomas was sent off after receiving his second caution.
On 55 minutes Steve Orrell went close with a header but it was Kidsgrove who doubled their lead on 58 minutes through Darren Twigg.
After that Ramsbottom offered little resistance as their poor record against Staffordshire sides continued with Kidsgrove making it three through John Evans on 89 minutes.
Ramsbottom travel to Skelmersdale tomorrow as they look to get their title bid back on track.
