A BLUE plaque honouring Jack Walker on the house where he was born was unveiled by Blackburn MP Jack Straw.

Number 96 Randal Street, Blackburn, is a humble terrace house which disguises the fortunes that Jack

and his brother Fred went on to which famously included landing the Premiership title for his beloved Blackburn Rovers,

The Blackburn Civic Society decided to honour the man affectionately known as Uncle Jack, seeking the permission of his family and the current homeowner Jakub Shenaz who was only too pleased to be involved.

The plaque reads "Jack Walker 1929-2000 entrepreneur, philanthropist, benefactor and patron of Blackburn Rovers was born here".

Among the many who have campaigned for a plaque have been Home Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw, a lifelong Rovers fan and Coun Hussain Akhtar whose ward, Shear Brow, Mr Walker was born.

The plaque, funded by Blackburn with Darwen Council, is the second honour to be bestowed on Jack Walker. Blackburn Rovers are currently collecting for a statue of Jack Walker to be unveiled at the start of next season.
