TWO podium finishes at Mallory Park's EMRA meeting has left sidecar racer Dave Holden in a quandary.

For the result has put the Great Harwood-based plumber on top of a championship he hadn't planned to contest

"I only went to testing, but the results mean we're in the lead now, so it looks as if I'll have to do the other rounds now!" joked Dave.

After suffering gearbox failure last time out at Oulton Park, Holden and passenger Ben Birchall took their Alpacas of Europe-backed machine to the Leicestershire track to try out a new modification.

The pair are in action at Castle Combe on Saturday for round six of the MRO National Cup.

Success up north LEGENDS: Haslingden's Steve Hobday made his first appearance north of the border -- and was rewarded with second place.

Hobday took his Chadfort Engineering-sponsored car to Knockhill, near Dunfermline, for a round of the Scottish Legends Championship.

"The British championship has a double-header there next month, so I went up to learn the circuit before the 28-day testing ban -- which is in force before each round -- came into effect," explained Hobday.

Despite starting from the back row of the grid for each of the three races, he quickly carved his way through the field to claim a third and fourth in the heats and second in the final.

Double delight BIKES: Tony Shaw (pictured) extended his class lead in the Pegasus Championship after winning two races at the Darley Moor track in Derbyshire.

Shaw, who rides a Bob Wright Racing Yamaha R6 in both the 4-stroke 600cc and Supersport 600 classes, also finished as runner-up in two races.

"The results were good, but the track is a bit daunting," explained the Oswaldtwistle rider.

"We clocked fastest lap in two of the races, averaging over 92mph, but there's just no run-off area at all. There were couple of massive crashes during the day, so I decided to keep out of trouble by staying out in front where no-one could catch me!"

Runner-up in the Aintree championship for the past two years, Shaw will be contesting the first round of the 2000 series on Saturday.

Record bid RACING: EuroBOSS racer Tony Worswick, from Blackburn, wrote his name in the Brands Hatch record books after claiming the outright lap record for the long circuit.

Worswick's Jordan 194 averaged almost 124mph to clock 1m 16.17 seconds during a charge from the back of the field after problems early in the 10-lap race.
