MIDFIELD maestro Tugay Kerimoglu today spoke of his heartache at having to leave Rangers as he prepares to make a new start with Rovers next season.

The Turkish midfield ace said an emotional goodbye to Gers fans yesterday after playing a starring role in Rangers' crushing 4-0 win over Hibernian.

But, though he admits it's a massive wrench to be leaving Ibrox, he is relishing the potential challenge which awaits him at Ewood.

"Leaving Rangers is breaking my heart, I've got to be honest," said Tugay.

"It was my dream, my adventure when I left Turkey to come to Europe and it's been an honour to play for these fans.

"But I have to look after my career.

"I'm 30 now and I have to play -- that's why I'm taking the decision to go.

"I can't sit on the bench, I have to be playing regularly, and I hope to do that at Blackburn.

"Yesterday was so emotional for me.

"I was so, so sad to be saying goodbye to the wonderful Rangers fans.

"They've been such an inspiration to me, I will never forget them, and I hope they 'll never forget Tugay.

"It will always be my honour to tell my kids that I played for Rangers Football Club.

"But life moves on and I've got to focus on the challenges which await me with Blackburn now."

Rovers have agreed a £1.3 deal with the Scottish giants for the 30-year-old's services.

But his move south still hinges on a work permit and Rovers hope to hear soon whether their initial application has been accepted or not.

If it's rejected, then Rovers may have to go to an appeal as they did with Brad Friedel last November.

One player who definitely does not appear to be Ewood bound, however, is Southampton defender Dean Richards.

The former Wolves defender has been linked with Rovers in the past but he is not a name on manager Graeme Souness's summer shopping list.
