JEFF Stone's suggestion that the market should be moved to Lord Square in Blackburn (Letters, May 9) deserves consideration.

The market, as it is, is going downhill fast because, like the rest of the town, it is not drawing in people spending money.

Lord Square, as it is now, is a disgrace and the rest of the town is dirty and shops are empty.

Businesses that have been in the town centre for years and years are leaving and a lot of people are intimidated in the centre on a weekend because of a rowdy element.

A new arcade would be a very nice idea, because the closure of Church Street alone will neither brighten up the town nor bring the shoppers back.

Blackburn.
