IN my Last article I said it would be great if amateur finals were played on league grounds again and I am pleased to say the Birtwistle Cup in the Blackburn Combination is back on Ewood again after so long.

I played in the final for Griffin Celtic back in the late 70s when we beat Ribchester at Ewood and the occasion was all the better for being at there.

I know the players and officials in this year's final are going to enjoy the day and remember it forever.

May I take his opportunity to congratulate my mate Gary Evans of Miners FC who I mentioned a few weeks ago. They were in the final yet again of the Hospital Cup and surprise, surprise they have won it again for the fourth time in six years.

So well done Gaz, I hope it goes some way to make up for demolition derby day disappointment.

Lastly, may I say I hope Nelson FC are promoted as the club and players and especially Bails (John Bailey) deserve a chance to pit their wits in Division One next season.

The final of the Birtwistle Cup between Ewood Amateurs and West End will take place at Ewood Park on Tuesday, May (kick off 6.30pm).
