Borrowdale 4 Brierfield Celtic 1

A BORROWDALE goal blitz in a blistering 10-minute spell sunk Celtic before they knew what had happened.

Dale scored three quick-fire goals to put them in charge with winger Phil Hayton hitting a double while Lee Uttley put the game beyond shell-shocked Celtic.

At this stage a double figure drubbing was a distinct possibility but in fairness to Celtic they re-grouped and defended doggedly for the remainder of the match.

And in a rare sortie up field, Adam Blackburn forced keeper Leon Hartley into a good save from a well taken free kick.

However, it was as a defensive unit they were most impressive with Trevor Hewitt and Ryan Clarke in exceptional form.

Dale had an embarrassment of riches going forward with the lively Anthony Harker a real handful down the flanks while Tom O'Malley nearly got on the scoresheet but fired wide.

After the break, Borrowdale extended their lead when Hayton did all the hard work to set up Jake Balmforth to fire the ball home. Balmforth then had a header well saved by Junaid Hussain.

The final was marred when Dale's Anthony Harker retaliated to a Shaun Holden foul and both players rightly received their marching orders. Both players left the pitch in tears having learnt their lesson the hard way.
