BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness will make his second signing of the summer in the next 48 hours with Alan Mahon due to put pen to paper on a permanent deal with Rovers.

Ewood chief executive John Williams met the player's advisers yesterday to thrash out personal terms.

And Rovers expect the former Tranmere star to fly in from Dublin before the weekend to finally rubber-stamp his £1.5 million move from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.

"We had a very productive meeting with Alan's advisers yesterday and made significant progress on that front," said Williams.

"It's not quite done yet but we've effectively got a deal and we hope to complete that over the next few days.

"He's a player Graeme thinks can only get better and we believe he will be a valuable addition."

Rovers have already been busy on the transfer front, snapping up Clyde centre back Gordon Greer in a £200,000 deal earlier this week.

And Turkish midfielder Tugay Kerimoglu has also agreed to a £1.3 million switch from Rangers -- subject to a work permit being granted.

The capture of Mahon would represent another significant piece in Souness's Premiership jigsaw.

But don't expect the spending to stop there with the Rovers boss currently tracking at least three more targets.

Such an influx of new blood will inevitably lead to departures, however, and Rovers have already received a host of enquiries for three different players since the season finished.

"There has been some interest in some of our players but none of the parties have yet made any firm offers," said Williams.

"Therefore, it would be inappropriate for us to divulge any further information on that as yet."

However, the likes of Jason McAteer, Simon Grayson, Egil Ostenstad, Marlon Broomes, John Filan and Alan Kelly are all likely to attract interest over the summer having failed to pin down a regular starting place last season.

Meanwhile, David Dunn and Martin Taylor are in the England Under 21 squad for tonight's friendly with Mexico at Filbert Street.

Dunn is expected to skipper the side while Taylor is hoping to be handed his first ever cap after being called up as a late replacement earlier in the week.
