RUMOURS that fireworks will light up the night sky in Darwen on Bank Holiday Monday have been confirmed.

The spectacle will start at 10.30pm as part of Darwen Music Life celebrations. Organisers have promised that the display will be clearly seen across the town.

A new headline act has been announced for the Sunday line-up after illness forced West African based King Masco to cancel. Darwen band Gone Beggin have now stepped in.

Darwen councillor Dave Smith said: "We are saddened by the loss of King Masco but we are confident that it will not detract from the programme. Gone Beggin are crowd pleasers due to their track record."

Bus services will run between Blackburn and Darwen every 15 minutes during peak times during the weekend to cope with increased demand.

A 60-strong line up of acts are performing on Sunday and Monday at venues across the town. A programme of community activities, including a Real Ale Festival and Help The Aged Fun Day, will kick off the festival on Saturday.
