SUCK it and see -- that's the verdict on Manchester City's new boss Kevin Keegan from the Prestwich and Whitefield branch of the Blues' supporters club.

Chairman Don Price wasn't exactly thrilled about the appointment of the former England coach, but he said it was better than some of the other names bandied about.

"At least it's not Dave Bassett or George Graham, who seem to be mentioned every time there's a managers job up for grabs," said Price, of Bannerman Avenue, Prestwich.

"I'm a bit iffy about Keegan, but as a short term appointment for two or three years he might do okay.

"What he can rely on is the support of the fans. We always give managers a chance, even Alan Ball, and believe me that was hard."

Price reckons chairman David Bernstein pulled off a shrewd move by announcing the new boss just hours before a fans' forum at Maine Road, which took place last night.

"If he hadn't got a big name in then he would have been in for a hard time from a lot of City fans who thought Joe Royle shouldn't have been sacked," said Price.

"I think sacking Joe Royle was a big, backwards step, but we'll give Keegan a chance and see how he does."

THE Supporters Club are holding a Family Fun Day this Sunday from 12 noon to 5pm at Heaton Park Social Club on Bury Old Road.

There will soccer coaching for youngsters, a bouncy castle, a barbecue and all sorts of entertainement. Entry is free.
