THOUSANDS of local families could be missing out on £520 a year, says Labour's David Chaytor.
Nearly half of all eligible families have not yet applied for the new Children's Tax Credit, which replaced the old Married Couple's Allowance last month.
"Even if your child turns 16 during the tax year, you can still receive the credit for the whole of that year," said Mr Chaytor, Labour's Bury North representative.
"It's also worth bearing in mind that the credit is available to PAYE taxpayers and self-employed people alike."
He advised people to check if they are eligible by phoning 0845 300 1036.
